Tis the seasons for strimmers to be brought out of the garage! This one wouldn’t drive at all, and the motor wasn’t getting any mains voltage. Following the wires up I could measure the mains voltage getting into the housing, but just not to the motor contacts themselves.

A bit of head scratching as surely this should be spinning, led me to notice that the brushes had been re-installed at some point backwards and were no longer making contact!! Flip em around and the strimmer is spinning happily again
